VILANOVA IS BACK

The manager of Barcelona FC, Tito Vilanova, has joined the camp again after successfully going through chemotherapy. This is great news for Barcelona as they have to play a couple of very important matches in the next few days.

Vilanova had gone to USA in the 3rd week of January for Chemotherapy. It was expected that he would be joining the Barcelona camp in a couple of months if everything would go well.

Everything went really well and his chemotherapy was successful. Now, he is back to guide the Catalan club to Champions League and La Liga title victory.

Vilanova earlier had a tumour in his throat and he went through a surgery for the removal of that towards the end of 2011. He remained healthy for about 12 months or so, but, in December last year, that problem started to bother him again and he had to go to USA for treatment.
In the absence of Vilanova, the assistant manager of Barca, Jordi Roura, had been managing the team. He had been in regular touch with Vilanova though.

When Vilanova was not with Barca, there was a bit of deterioration in their performance. They won only 8 out of the 13 games that they played during that period.
They lost to the arch rivals Real Madrid in the final 4 of the Copa Del Rey. They also lost to AC Milan in the final 16, first leg match of Champions League, but, they came back well in the return leg and managed to move into the quarter finals.

In the La Liga points table, Barca’s position is still very strong. They have 13 points more than the no. 2 Real Madrid.

Barca will take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg, quarterfinal match of the Champions League on Tuesday.
