EVERTON WANT TO SIGN MIDFIELDER ONCE COMPARED TO XAVI AND INIESTA

Everton are interested in the possibility of signing midfielder Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, reports Simon Stone from BBC Sport. The boyhood Tottenham fan is looking for regular minutes next season and could be tempted to join the Merseyside club in the summer. Everton have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window so far after barely avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season.

However, Frank Lampard could be set to push for his first signing of the summer in the form of the hard-working Tottenham midfielder.

Winks is desperate to resurrect his career in the Premier League after only starting nine games for the North London side last season. With Spurs signing Yves Bissouma recently and Rodrigo Bentancur earlier this year to strengthen their midfielder, the English midfielder knows he won’t get regular minutes at Spurs. The England international would be willing to leave Spurs and can be tempted to join Everton, knowing their lack of options in midfield. Moreover, the prospect of working with and growing under someone like Frank Lampard can tip the favour for the Merseyside club to get him.

Harry Winks has been playing at Tottenham from an academy level and received his senior call-up from Mauricio Pochettino in 2014. The Englishman was held in high regard by the Argentine manager and featured heavily under him. In fact, his hard-working ability and composure on the ball impressed Pochettino so much that he gave him the greatest compliment possible. In 2018, Pochettino called him the ‘perfect midfield player’ and liked him to Barcelona legends Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
Winks has struggled to assert himself at Spurs since the departure of the Argentine manager and become a rotational figure in recent years. That’s why he is looking to leave for a club that will give him more regular minutes as well as an assurance of a prominent role in the first-team squad.
