Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has said that he does not expect the club to relinquish their determination of European football – and indeed world football – following the departure of Guardiola.
The former Barcelona captain was responsible for turning around the fortunes of an ailing Barcelona team. He guided them to 14 trophies in the last four seasons, which has been unprecedented due to the football they have played. During this period, Barcelona have won three la Liga titles and two Champions League titles. Guardiola was recently succeeded by the former assistant manager Tito Vilanova, who has signed a two-year deal with the club.
The Spanish midfielder Iniesta has said that he is no denying the fact that Barcelona will definitely miss Guardiola, but they have to look towards the future. He has said that he is extremely confident that new manager Tito Vilanova will be able to get them a similar kind of success. Many are expecting Tito Vilanova to make drastic changes to the team and the way they play.
However, the former assistant manager has said that he does not want to make too many changes to the team that has been extremely successful in the last four seasons both in terms of the trophies and in terms of the way they play.
"With Guardiola, we reached the peak, we will miss him. But we will follow practically the same line with Tito. Considering this, the change will not be dramatic," said the Barcelona midfielder Iniesta. The 28-year-old is one of the favourites to win the FIFA Ballon d'Or award this season after performing exceptionally with the Spanish national team at the Euro 2012. He has made it no secret that he would like to win the award. Lionel Messi and Xavi are the competitors for the award alongside Iniesta.
