Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has categorically stated that he would never play in the Premier League in his career.
The midfielder is regarded as one of the finest in the world, but his form with Barcelona has dropped off late. This is largely down to the importance given to players like Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. Iniesta does not occupy a major role in the tactics of Luis Enrique as he did under Pep Guardiola. This has raised suggestions that the player might consider a move to the Premier League just as other Barcelona stars like Pedro and Cesc Fabregas in recent memory.
Iniesta will find no shortage of clubs interested in signing him, as the midfielder was linked with the likes of United and Chelsea in the past. Approaching the age of 31, it would be fair to say that Iniesta may not carry on playing as the top midfielder in Barcelona’s first team for several years. The midfielder may face the same exit that fell upon Xavi Hernandez in the summer. Xavi is playing in the Middle East for a couple of years before finally retiring. Iniesta may think about a move to the MLS, which is becoming extremely popular due to the arrival of players like Lampard and Kaka.
“I’ve never had that need.I’m very happy here and I have three more years on my contract that I’ll hopefully fulfil. For me, there’s no better place than Barca. And when you feel that way, you don’t see anything else,” said the midfielder, who has represented the Catalan club in more than 500 games across all competitions. His best time has come in the finals of major competitions like the Champions League and World Cup. He scored the winner for Spain in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
