Andres Iniesta faces a bit of difficulty while playing in pair with Xavi in Barcelona midfield.
The 30-year old player has admitted it himself.
To hear something like this from Iniesta is definitely a bit of a surprise because Xavi is supposed to be in his closest of mates.
The duo has had a great coordination over the years and they have seen a number of seasons pass by at Camp Nou playing alongside.
Their presence is probably the reason why Barcelona’s midfield has been one of the most solid ones in the world in the last decade or so.
But, for some reason, Iniesta is starting to believe that he and Xavi are not that effective playing together anymore.
According to Iniesta, his relationship and tuning with Xavi is still the same, but, things aren’t working out as well on the field as the two would have liked.
Speaking in his most recent interview, Iniesta said, “At times, I feel it’s quite difficult for both of us to be playing in the same line up.”
“He is undoubtedly a great player and with his unbelievable abilities, he helps his teammates, but, as far as our partnership is concerned, it does not appear to be working out at the moment and that happens. But, there have never been any hard feelings between us. We have always respected each other and would keep on doing that.”
Xavi is actually a bit senior than Iniesta. He has been featuring for Barcelona since 1998 and has had close to 500 Liga games under his belt.
Iniesta got a go at the senior level for Barcelona in 2002 for the first time and he has also played quite a lot of first division games for the club so far, 352 to be precise.
